Viner History
1947 The company was founded by Viviano Nerozzi and took its name from his initials.
During these hard years of post-War reconstruction, the company expanded on a local
level in the provinces of Florence, Prato and Pistoia.
1950s From the very beginning the founder’s aim was manufacture high quality bicycles; in
the 1950s the bicycle was a widely-used form of transport and solidity was an important
design factor.
1960s Viner became an important regional manufacturer of high profile racing bicycles and
consequently youth cycling clubs formed which Viner sponsored (or publicised, as they
said in those days), to launch new talent. The Viner trademark became increasingly
established and respected in the world of racing and extended its market beyond the
region of Tuscany.
1970s These were decisive years for the Viner trademark.
The company made its debut in the professional cycling world with the FURZI-FT team.
Cyclists like Conti, Polidori, Boifava, Chinetti led the team to various successes and in
particular, made Viner bicycles known to the wide audience of the Giro d’Italia, in
which Conti was a contender.
In 1978 the four-man Dutch team in the world amateur 100km time trial team
championship won the rainbow jersey on Viner bikes.
During this decade the company exported frames and racing bikes throughout
Europe, the United States and Australia.
1980s During the first half of the decade teams in the beginner category continued to win on
Viner bikes. The most prestigious prize was the Olympic medal awarded to the Italian
team in the 100km in the Los Angeles Olympics. One member of the team, Giovannetti
took part on a Viner bicycle.
In the meantime the company expanded and became a public limited company.
At the end of this decade the Mountain Bike “revolution” exploded. Viner realised that
this was not a passing craze but a really new concept in bikes, and consequently
devoted much of its technological expertise to the production of these off-road bikes.
This proved to be the right decision as MTB brought a wave of new ideas to the rather
conservative bicycle world.
The benefits for young people were immediately evident with a healthy return of road
bikes in the years to come, after a decline in popularity. MTB became a watershed in the
long history of the bicycle - and Viner was on the right bank!
1990s The moment came to update the trademark and the quality of the company publicity
campaign is among the highest in the sector: a breath of fresh air in a rather stationary
world.
Viner, a young company with a wealth of experience, is the first Italian company in the
sector to go on the Net.
The ever-increasing quality of Viner racing and mountain bikes is asserted with the
Pistoiese company’s return to the big professional road races and its debut in the new
world of MTB cross-country tournaments.
The company’s success in recent years in the sporting and commercial sectors has
made the headlines..
It must be emphasised that quality has always been a company priority. Every year
Viner’s technical experts are put to the test by aesthetic and technical research and the
final results prove them right.
It is not by chance that the first light alloy aluminium frames with new aerodynamic
shapes were launched by Viner.
The company continues its quest for new and better innovations.
Viner is present throughout the world with its high quality bikes, built with high
technology machinery and assembled using the best components available on the
market.
